Rondout Valley Junior High PBIS Program

What is PBIS?

  • Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a system for creating an effective school environment through acknowledgement of the positive behaviors demonstrated by our students. It is a research-based building-wide behavior support system intended for all students, staff and families within our community.

  • The Junior High School PBIS approach emphasizes four positively stated expectations:  Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible and Be Honorable. Emphasis is placed on expected and acceptable behaviors.

  • Staff and administrators will instruct students on the school-wide expectations, provide reinforcements for following these expectations, provide consequences for rule infractions and use data on a regular basis for evaluation purposes.

  • PBIS is about motivating and encouraging students toward positive behavior while recognizing and reinforcing appropriate actions, significant displays of good character and marked effort and improvement toward personal and academic success.
